More than 2.5 million voters turned out in the state of South Carolina for this year’s general election.
108,000 residents voted absentee, 1,472,000 residents voted early and 977,000 residents voted on Election Day. Approximately 75% of all voters in the state voted this year.
"South Carolina’s historic turnout reflects the deep commitment and passion of our voters and the increased accessibility made possible by our new early voting process. We commend the over 2.5 million South Carolinians who exercised their right to vote and engaged actively in our democracy," Howie Knapp, executive director of the state election commission, said in the press release. "We are especially grateful for the dedication of our poll workers, whose tireless efforts are the foundation of secure and accurate elections."
