Stamp and Postcard Show
On Friday from 11 a.m to 5 p.m., and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the TriCity Leisure Center, located at 485 Brooks Ave. in West Columbia, stamp and postcard enthusiasts can get together with like-minded folk for a free event. The Columbia Philatelic Society is hosting the event. “Fourteen vendors will be there selling stamps, postcards and stamp collecting supplies,” according to a release from the society. “They will also be available to appraise collections and to answer philatelic questions. Members will be available to explain the hobby to interested youngsters and teens.” Parking and admission are free, and there will be a raffle. “At least four CPS members will be displaying their collections. The exhibits are exciting, unusual and represent years of diligent work,” according to the release. “Collecting stamps is collecting history. Doing a project for school? Think about adding stamps to enhance the story. If it’s an important historical event, there’s a stamp commemorating it. If there’s a person who has created something, done something spectacular, entertained us, provided exceptional leadership, discovered a life-altering medication, there’s a stamp honoring the event or person. Stamps continue to be relevant, more stamps are being issued every year. Now is a great time to begin your collecting.”
