The high school lacrosse season has about one more week of games left before the postseason begins.
With only a few games left to go, teams from Lexington County are looking to capture a few final wins and head into the postseason with momentum on their side.
The race for the region title is still active in both the boys and girls conference, but there has not been much movement in the standings for a while.
Entering this week, the Chapin boys and Lexington girls are in control for first place. The Eagles have locked up the region title, finishing the year undefeated against conference foes. Lexington is also close to wrapping up the title but could still lose it, even though the chances are slim.
Chapin and River Bluff’s girls are right behind the Wildcats with one loss each. Only River Bluff can beat Lexington in a one-on-one tie breaker as the two teams have not played yet. Chapin, though, would need there to be a three-way tie to win the title after already losing to Lexington.
Regardless of how things play out during these final few games, all three teams will earn a spot in the postseason.
Under them sits Dutch Fork, who began this week an even 3-3 in region games. The team is looking to take the fourth-place spot in the region by beating out both Blythewood and Spring Valley.
The Silver Foxes have played well against other teams outside the top three, so they should be the favorites to finish fourth.
White Knoll and Irmo are at the bottom of the standings and will try to end their season on a high note.
Irmo has yet to win a game this year and has just two more chances with games scheduled against Trinity Collegiate and Chapin.
Shifting focus to the boys, Lexington and River Bluff are neck and neck in a heated battle for second place. While neither can win the region title, a home playoff game could possibly be on the line for whoever comes out on top.
Both teams entered this week 4-1 and will play their final region game of the season against each other this Thursday. The winner will take second place while the loser takes third and could have to play on the road during the entire postseason.
Dutch Fork and White Knoll are even in fourth place. Dutch Fork will claim the spot when it's all said and done after beating the Timberwolves in their meeting earlier this season. It’s possible that both teams will sneak into the playoffs, but not guaranteed.
The 2025 lacrosse regular season officially ends on April 17. Playoffs will begin a few days later on April 21, and the championships will be played on May 2 and May 3.
Malachi Merkovsky scored six goals and an assist in Chapin’s win over Greenville.

Izzy Saville finished with four goals and two assists as Lexington beat Blythewood 23-1.
Brooke Holmes had four goals and two assists in Chapin’s narrow region win over Dutch Fork.
