At the latest West Columbia City Council meeting, several employees were recognized with service pins and members discussed the annexation of a property.
On Dec. 18, a petition for the annexation of 101 Pinecrest Ave. in West Columbia was presented to the council. This is located near the ALDI on Augusta Road in West Columbia.
BJ Unthank, director of economic development, said that currently there is nothing on the property, which was previously a residential business at a corner lot. Unthank added that while there are no specific plans in place, the city aims to prepare the property for future commercial or retail use.

21 employees were honored for their five years of service in 2024. These employees include Joseph Dickey, David Moye, Christie Fleming, Jennifer Dowden, Sarah Johnson, Troy Chapman, Loyd David, Brandon Miller, Manzy Tyler, Tony Taylor, Ruth Weatherford, J’Quan Allen, Marc Aloan, Lee Clanton, Jeffrey Hair, Bill Florence, David Johnes, Patrick Wessel, Jeremy Bristow, Terrence Ramseur and Christopher Williams.
Seven employees were recognized for 10 years of service. These employees include Jeremy Amick, Eugene Hammill, Brad Shirer, Marquis Solomon, Ashley Corley, Antonio Delay and Dwayne Williams.
Six employees received pins for 15 years of service. These employees include Tommy Todd, Matt Deas, Stacy Turner, O’Dell Smith, Eric Sharpe and Andy Upp.
BJ Unthank and Ricky Stanley were awarded for their 20 years of service.
Nitin “Lalu” Chauhan, Bubba Long and Mark Samples received their pins for 25 years of service while Chuck Jacobs marked 30 years and Wilhelmenia Frazier reached 35 years of service.
