West Columbia stamp, postcard show welcomed over 150 enthusiasts of all ages

The Columbia Philatelic Society held its annual Winter Stamp and Postcard show on Friday, Feb. 13, and Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Tri-City Leisure Center in West Columbia, S.C.

Fourteen vendors were there selling stamps, postcards and stamp collecting supplies. They were also available to appraise collections and to answer philatelic questions. Members were available to explain the hobby to interested youngsters and teens.

“It’s a hobby anyone can get excited about,” CPS President Fred McGary said in a release, "by collecting different countries or different topics, like stamps featuring churches or horses or anything that piques your interest.”

Four CPS members were displaying their collections. Collecting stamps is collecting history. Stamps continue to be relevant; more stamps are being issued every year. Now is a great time to begin your collecting.

The CPS is a chapter of the American Philatelic Society and the Southeastern Federation of Stamp Clubs. They meet on the third Sunday of each month at 2 p.m. at the Tri-City Leisure Center at 485 Brooks St. in West Columbia.

The Columbia Philatelic Society is the oldest stamp club in South Carolina and recently celebrated its 90th anniversary, according to the release.
