The Lexington side of the Lake Murray dam will open for beach goers on April 1, and required day passes can be reserved through Dominion Energy’s online reservation system up to three weeks in advance.
Parking costs $5 a vehicle; this cost offsets maintenance, security and parks improvements, according to a press release from Dominion Energy.
Passes are valid for the entire day until the pass holder leaves the park. Passes are required whether you plan to use the beach or the recreation area.
“Lake Murray is a favorite summer destination for many visitors across the Midlands and beyond,” Billy Chastain, manager of Lake Management for Dominion Energy South Carolina, said in the press release. “We’re excited to welcome guests back and encourage everyone to follow boating and swimming safety guidelines while enjoying the parks.”
The Lexington-side beach and recreation area hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends and holidays. The season ends on Sept. 7, Labor Day.
There are no lifeguards, and pets and alcohol are prohibited.
On the Irmo-side boat launch of the Lake Murray Dam, cash will no longer be accepted to pay for parking, starting this year. “Visitors using the boat launch will need to pay online once they arrive,” according to the press release.
The $5 parking passes for boat trailers are required for the April 1 to Sept. 7, 2026, season.
Swimming and alcohol are prohibited in this area, and pets must be leashed. The park in this area is accessible to boaters at all hours throughout the year; it is accessible to non-boaters from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. year-round.
