The Blowfish are off to an up-and-down start this season but the summer day ballpark vibes are in full effect with several fan engagement opportunities keeping the community entertained.

A week of nice weather set up the perfect conditions to travel to the Lexington County Baseball Stadium and catch a game in the early portion of the season. The Blowfish played in six contests last week, including three at home.

The team got the week started on the road and suffered a shutout loss, 5-0, to the Florence Flamingos. The game was a scoreless pitching duel until the seventh inning when the Flamingo batted in a run.

Florence added two more runs before the eighth inning and ended the game with two more after that. The Blowfish had multiple scoring opportunities after getting guys on base but leaving them stranded.

Lexington County got its revenge the next day when Florence traveled to town for a back-to-back. This time, Lexington won by a five-run margin, winning 11-6.

Michigan State’s Christian Williams hit a home run early for the Blowfish to help the team carry a 6-1 lead after three innings.

It was also the first dog day Tuesday of the season, meaning fans could bring their dogs to the game for free.

The Blowfish next traveled to Macon to face the Bacon, frying their opponent 6-3.

Spartanburg Methodist’s and former Dutch Fork star Blake Martin tied the game at one in the fourth inning after hitting an RBI single. North Greenville’s and former River Bluff star Thomas Powell gave the Blowfish the lead soon after with his own RBI.

From there, the Blowfish never looked back, growing its lead until the end of the game.

The team returned home the next day for a Friday night contest against Forest City in the first of two meetings between the teams that weekend.

Mistakes and errors proved costly as the team dropped both games to the Owls to move to 3-4 on the season.

The Owls put two runs on the board in the first three innings of game one, while Lexington’s batters struggled to connect with the ball.

The Blowfish turned it around in the sixth inning and tied the game at two. But in the seventh, the Blowfish committed an error setting up the lead-taking runs en route to an 8-2 Owl win.

Saturday the team had a bit more offensive production but allowed an extra run, losing 9-3. But while the team hit the road back home, some of the guys stayed back for an exhibition match against Catawba Valley and to take in the Lexington-Richland sheriff’s softball game.

The game was played to help support United Service Organizations South Carolina. Each department was a team with the Richland County sheriffs winning 5-0 after scoring most of its runs early.

This week the Blowfish will play seven contests, including four at home with more fun and festivities scheduled for fans to enjoy.
