Can't anybody here play this game?

Our health experts let us down again

When Casey Stengal took over as manager of the hapless New York Mets, he asked, “Can’t anybody here play this game?”
Looking at our so-called health experts makes you feel like Casey did. Can’t any of them play this virus game?
The World Health Organization, the Centers for Disease Control and the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control have played a disappointing game in dealing with covid and delivering vaccine.
Lexington County senators Shane Massey and Sen. Dick Harpootlian criticized them.
“This has been a disaster,” Sen. Massey told the Chronicle.
“The planning was bad. The implementation bad and the communication terrible.
“This task never should have been given to DHEC.  The governor screwed this one up.””
House Speaker Jay Lucas has appointed Lexington Rep. Chris Wooten and 6 other lawmakers to find ways to get faster action.
Gov. Henry McMaster said the state would no longer adhere to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guideline not to go to the next phase until 70% of the 1st phase is vaccinated.
Lexington County seniors have written the Chronicle with their concerns. They find the DHEC-CDC online sign-up frustrating. They don’t like it that they can’t make a joint appointment with their spouses to get the vaccine together.
The Chronicle has called on DHEC to make:
• The sign-up simpler.
• Allow older spouses to go together for vaccinations.
We will let you know how DHEC responds.
It seems clear that someone else besides DHEC needs to be in charge of seeing that the vaccine gets to more of us much faster.
We join Sen. Nikki Setzler in urging the governor to appoint West Columbia’s Maj. Gen. Bob Livingston to take over.
Bob is a strategic thinker and tactician with a proven performance record. If anyone can fix this problem, he can.
