Comeback Lifts Gilbert Volleyball to Lower State Final, Chapin Golf Takes 2nd in Class 5A

Pelion, Lexington and Irmo Win Region Titles in Cross-Country

After placing second in the region, the Gilbert High School volleyball team is headed to the Class 3A Lower State final.

The Lady Indians rallied from trailing two sets to one Oct. 26 to take a five-set victory over host team Camden to reach the state semifinals for the first time since 2019.

The scores were 21-25, 25-21, 21-25, 27-25 and 16-14. 

Instead of a fourth meeting with Region 5-3A champion Orangeburg-Wilkinson, Gilbert (19-8-1) will travel to Charleston Halloween night to face Phillip Simmons for the Lower State title.

The Lady Iron Horses defeated the Bruinettes in three sets 25-18, 25-17, 25-17.

The winner will face either Powdersville or Wren out of the Upper State in the Class 3A final Nov. 3 at Dreher High School.

For the second year in a row, the Chapin High School girls golf team placed second at the S.C. High School League tournament.
The Lady Eagles had a team score of 664 to finish 29 strokes behind champion Dorman High School. Both Mia Andrade and Lilly Reed Black were eighth and ninth, respectively, to earn All-State honors.
Lexington placed eighth as a team with a score of 704, while River Bluff finished in 14th place.
The final was held at Holly Tree Country Club in Simpsonville.

Cross-Country 

Both Pelion and Lexington cross-country teams and the Irmo girls won its respective region titles Oct. 26.
