A large crowd got cold and wet for a good cause Feb. 10. What looked to be about 1,000 people showed up for the 2024 Lake Murray Polar Plunge near the reservoir’s dam, running into the less than hospitable water as part of an annual effort to raise money for Special Olympics South Carolina.

“This event, run by Law Enforcement Torch Run officers, is a huge fundraising effort that is critical in aiding our athletes,” the organization detailed in a release.”Proceeds raised go to help provide year-round sports training and competition for our athletes. Additionally, contributions and involvement in this great event help our athletes achieve their goals, live healthier lives, and have a sense of inclusion in the community.”
