Alodia’s in Lexington closed its doors as of Thursday, April 25, after owing the state’s revenue department more than $13,000 in taxes.

According to Tim Smith, public information officer for the S.C. Department of Revenue, the state revenue department ordered Alodia’s to close due to the restaurant revoking its retail sales tax license. The Lexington eatery once owed more than $43,000 but now currently owes a little over $13,000, according to Smith.

There are multiple liens currently on file associated with the restaurant’s owner, but they are not associated with Alodia’s, Smith said. They are under Alodia’s owner, Adam Huneau, as well as another LLC.

Huneau posted a letter to Alodia’s Facebook page as well as the restaurant’s website. The restaurant’s Facebook page is now deleted.

Huneau could not be reached for comment. He did, however, state in the letter, “It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closing of Alodia’s Lexington effective immediately. ... Since the shutdown, many things have changed, not only in the rising cost of commodities but also in other areas of operations. These changes have made it increasingly difficult for us to continue operating as we have. Despite our deep desire to serve this wonderful community, we find it is no longer feasible to do so.”

Last summer, a comment shared on Facebook by former employee Zoe Spires, detailed a lack in payment and a desire that patrons pay in cash.       Spires and other former employees were eventually paid, as detailed in earlier reporting from the Chronicle.

The Lexington location then faced a temporary closure and the Irmo location faced a temporary closure before permanently shutting its doors last November. Alodia’s initially opened its doors in Lexington in 2018 while their Irmo location opened its doors in 2008.
