Posted

With the season three weeks away, the Lexington County Blowfish unveiled new farmer-inspired jerseys in conjunction as part of its partnership with the Lexington County Farm Bureau as well as announcing their first few player signings as they fill out the roster.

The local collegiate woodbat team introduced the overall-and-plaid-shirt-themed farmer jerseys as one of the many promotional deals they have with the Lexington County Farm Bureau on June 9 and 10. The theme for the weekend is “Homegrown Home Runs.” On the back, each jersey will feature a different agricultural comodity grown in the county.

As with the team's other one-off jersey, they will be auctioned off, with proceeds benefiting the bureau.

The jerseys aren’t the only farmer-themed activities for Homegrown Home Runs. There will be pedal tractor and sack races, and a goat will be milked a goat on the field.

“It’s gonna be a fun night. So you want to be here and it’s over two nights, so we have a lot to get to,” Blowfish owner Bill Shanahan said. “It’s really important that we support local. I’m really proud that the Lexington County Farm Bureau reached out to us a few years ago and said ‘We want to get involved with the Blowfish, we want to be a part of what you do here.’”

Blowfish announce signings of four USC players and one Clemson player

Allso revealed at the team's May 4 community lunch were four USC players and one Clemson player that have officially signed to play with the Blowfish.

The Gamecock players signed by Lexington County are catcher Zander Buchan, pitchers Connor McCreery and Sam Simpson, and River Bluff High School standout Thomas Powell, who will be playing for South Carolina next season after his summer with the Blowfish.

Infielder Cooper Blauser is the lone Clemson signing announced by the Blowfish.
