Lexington County deputy arrested for disturbing, urinating outside apartment complex

A Lexington County sheriff’s deputy was terminated after being arrested for disorderly conduct.

Per a release from the county Sheriff’s Department, Giovanni Michael Vaccaro, 29, was arrested by Lexington Police the morning of May 26 and was fired later the same day.

"When I became aware of Mr. Vaccaro's actions which resulted in his arrest, I started the process to terminate his employment," Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon is quoted. "Deputies are held to a higher standard and Mr. Vaccaro has fallen short of that."

According to an incident report provided by Lexington Police, officers responded a little before 5 a.m. to the Reserve at Mill Landing apartments (located near the Old Mill on E Main St.) having received a call complaining about a man banging on someone's front door and urinating in the breezeway. The man was identified as Vaccaro.

“As reporting officer approached the front of the building he noticed what appeared to be a belly band holster in the grass next to the sidewalk leading up to the stairs on the second floor,” the report states. “When reporting officer made contact with [Vaccaro] the reporting officer was immediately overcome by the odor of an alcoholic beverage about the person and breath which intensified while he spoke.

“[Vaccaro] had no shoes on and seemed to be walking around in circles. [Vaccaro] was asked what he was doing and he stated he was trying to get into his apartment, [number], and he pointed toward [different number]. Reporting officer looked over toward the apartment and observed a large wet spot on the ground which had a very pungent odor of urine. In the urine laid [Vaccaro]’s hat and set of keys."

According to the report, officers determined that Vaccaro was on the wrong side of the building he lived at.

The report states that Vaccaro attempted to walk away during questioning, at which point he was arrested due to his “gross intoxication,” disturbing the residential complex and urinating in the breezeway. After he was handcuffed, an officer found his shoes by the curb with a Sig Sauer 9mm pistol on the ground. Both the gun and the belly holster were determined to be Vacarro’s

Vacarro, whom the release notes is a recent graduate of the S.C. Criminal Justice Academy, was taken to the Lexington County Detention Center.

This is a developing story and will continue to be updated.
