The lacrosse season is approaching its end with just over two weeks of competition left until playoffs begin. 

With only a few games left to sort the standings out, teams near the top are feeling pretty good, while those near the bottom will be looking to snag any extra victories they can to try and earn a playoff bid. 

The Lexington boys and Chapin girls entered this week in control of their fate, sitting undefeated in the region standings. 

The Eagles enter this week 9-2 overall and 5-0 in region play. The team holds a two-game advantage on second-place Lexington after beating the Wildcats twice this season, including last week on the road. 

The rematch last week was closer than the first game played at Chapin. The Eagles edged by the Wildcats 15-12 after six players scored multiple goals. 

Ava-Claire Collins led the way with four goals and two assists. Brooke Holmes scored three, and everyone else who scored had two.

Lexington is in a good position to finish second in the region, should Chapin hold on for first. The Wildcats are a game up on River Bluff and Dutch Fork with wins against both already. 

River Bluff’s girls are set up for a busy week with three games scheduled but none against region teams. The Gators will resume conference games in the final week of the season with contests against Dutch Fork and Chapin. 

The Wildcat boys clinched two wins against region foes last week, narrowly escaping Dutch Fork and Chapin on the road. 

Lexington defeated the Silver Foxes March 18, 10-9. Both teams featured an explosive scoring duo that traded goals throughout the game. Hudson Wood and Wyatt Wilson combined for seven of Lexington’s 10 goals. Carter Hunt and Grant Dupree scored four apiece, but their effort came up just short. 

Wood added a goal against Chapin, but that win was spearheaded by a different group of players, showcasing the depth throughout the Wildcats’ roster. Ian Lewis scored three goals, and Ander Huffines and Holden Jackson had two. 

Lexington won at the start of this week against River Bluff to improve to 6-0 in the region. The Wildcats were also scheduled to play A.C. Flora earlier this week before taking on White Knoll March 28.

With two games left against region foes and a two-game gap against the second-place teams in, the Wildcats only need to win one of their final conference games to clinch first place outright. 

Chapin and Dutch Fork are tied for second with two losses each, but the Silver Foxes will have a shot to beat Lexington in the final game of the season. 

On the other side of the standings, White Knoll sits at 0-8 and is running out of chances to earn a conference win before the season’s end. The Timberwolves play Lexington this week and have next week off before their last conference game against Chapin. 

Big Performances

Jules Brown had seven goals for Chapin in the Eagles’ 21-6 win over River Bluff.

Riley Knight had 10 goals in three games last week, including a five-goal, two-assist performance against Irmo. 

Owen Salazar helped Chapin win two games this week scoring three goals against Boiling Springs and four against River Bluff. 

Leah Corley scored five goals in Dutch Forks’ win against A.C. Flora last week.

Ian Lewis scored three goals and added an assist for Lexington in their win against Chapin.
