Lexington Deputies Arrest Man Who Crashed Into Patrol Vehicle After 2 Pursuits

Posted

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department chased the same man twice Aug. 24.

The department announced the arrest of Devon Ray Shealy, 21, who “started two pursuits and crashed into a patrol vehicle."

According to a news release, Shealy faces multiple charges, including first degree assault, larceny and four counts each of failure to stop for blue lights and reckless driving.

“Deputies saw Shealy speeding and driving into oncoming lanes Wednesday afternoon, which led to an attempted traffic stop on Goose Platter Road,” Sheriff Jay Koon is quoted. “Shealy was suspected in the theft of the truck he was driving after it was reported stolen out of Lexington County earlier this week.”

Shealy refused to pull over, the release states, and crashed into a patrol unit before deputies ended the pursuit.

But that wasn’t the last time that day deputies gave chase to Shealy.

“Later during the shift, deputies again saw Shealy driving recklessly and attempted another traffic stop,” Koon is quoted. “Shealy initiated a second pursuit and eventually bailed out of the truck as it was moving and ran away.”

According to the release, Shealy was arrested after a short chase on foot. No deputies were injured while pursuing him.

Shealy is in custody at the Lexington County Detention Center.

This is a developing story and will continue to be updated.
