Lexington sweeps River Bluff, boys clinch share of Region 4-5A title

Third-ranked Lexington traveled to The Swamp and notched a 61-43 win over archrival River Bluff on Jan. 31. 

The win clinched a share of the Region 4-5A title for the Wildcats (15-6, 6-0), while the Gators (10-13, 4-2) saw their three-game winning streak come to an end. Both of River Bluff's region losses came at the hands of Lexington. 

After the first half, it looked like the Gators were on the way to claiming its first win in three tries against Lexington. They led 12-10 at the end of the first quarter and increased that lead to 22-18 at halftime. 

Nick Renner hit two, 3-pointers and had eight points in the first half.

With the opening of the third quarter, the Wildcats' Cam Scott got hot, and the Gators went cold. Scott scored 11 points in the third quarter, including a 3-pointer. He finished the night with 23 points to lead all scorers. Kaleb Evans had 14 for the Wildcats.

Lexington began to take control of the game in the third quarter and led 38-31 when the quarter ended. 

To open the fourth quarter, Scott hit 2 quick baskets to extend Lexington's lead. 

Renner and Luke Chapman each had 8 points for River Bluff to lead the Gators in scoring. 

Lexington returns to action Feb. 3 at White Knoll, while River Bluff travels to Dutch Fork.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Lexington 48, River Bluff 32

Lindsay Garner scored 16 points as the third-ranked Lady Wildcats (16-6, 5-1) maintained a half-game lead in the Region 4-5A standings.

Jaden Tucker had eight points for the Lady Gators (13-9, 4-2), who trailed for most of the game.
