Pelion High School hires new principal

Posted

A Richland County principal is set to take charge at a Lexington County high school.

At its regular March 21 meeting, the Lexington County School District 1 Board of Trustees approved hiring Sean Bishton as the new principal of Pelion High School.

I am honored to have been appointed as the Principal of Pelion High School for the 2023-2024 school year,” Bishton said. “On Tuesday I had the privilege of meeting the faculty and staff. I was overwhelmed by the warm welcome I received and I am very excited to be joining the Panther family. Moving forward I am looking forward to meeting the students and the community.”

Bishton comes to the post from Muller Road Middle School, located in Richland County School District 2, where he has served as principal since 2015.

The new principal will assume his new role July 1.

This will be Bishton’s first time serving within a Lexington County school district, having been with Richland 2 since 2007, a press release states.

I am excited about joining the Lexington 1 team as I know this is a district that will allow me to learn, grow, and develop my skills and  talents as an educator and administrator,” he said.

Bishton explained that his goals are to work collaboratively with faculty and staff along with developing and maintaining a culture where both students and teachers feel a sense of belonging and community, telling the Chronicle that he believes it “takes a village to raise a child.”

When he started with Richland 2, Bishton served as a curriculum effectiveness specialist, where he collaborated with teachers and faculty to develop and implement a curriculum to improve academic achievement. Before he served as principal for the middle school he also served as assistant principal.

Bishton’s education comes from the University of Cape Town, in South Africa, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in primary education, with an education master’s in instructional accommodations from Francis Marion University in Florence. Bishton also received an educational specialist degree in educational administration from Capella University.
