Posted

Police in Cayce and Lexington reported responding to apartment shootings on Oct. 8 and 9.

Cayce Police responded to the scene of an attempted home invasion Saturday, Oct. 8, at about 1:30 a.m. at Edenwood Apartments off Charleston Highway.

“The homeowner fired a weapon at the four suspects, hitting one in the upper body,” the department detailed in a release. “All four suspects fled the scene in a vehicle. Cayce Police officers arrived approximately four minutes after they were called. The four suspects called for an ambulance from a nearby parking lot.”

The suspect who was shot was taken in an ambulance to receive treatment. According to a provided incident report, he was found  in a white Ford Escape near the Food Lion in the Edenwood Plaza Shopping Center.

“The investigation has revealed conflicting statements from all parties involved and investigators also found a substantial quantity of marijuana in connection with the home invasion,” the release says. “The Cayce Police Department continues to interview witnesses, review evidence and identify who will be arrested as a result of this incident.”

Cayce Police say they “believe [they] have sufficient evidence at this time to state that this is an isolated incident.”

Lexington Police responded to a call of gunfire at the Reserve at Mill Landing apartments on East Main Street at about 10 a.m on Sunday, Oct. 9.

“Officers ... found a man outside who had been shot in the lower body several times,” a release details. “Officers provided aid until Lexington County EMS arrived and transported him to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”

The release notes that the investigation is ongoing and police believe it to have been an isolated incident.

“Detectives were told by witnesses that at least two black males were involved in the shooting and they were seen running from the area into the nearby woods,’ the release notes. “They were dressed in black clothing and had black masks over their faces.”

Cayce and Lexington Police are requesting anyone with information about the shootings to get in touch via Midlands Crimestoppers (midlandscrimestoppers.com or 888-274-6732). Lexington Police request that “anyone who witnessed the incident, has home security footage, related social media postings, or has other information that would be helpful in this case to contact Detective Taylor at 803-358-1569 or jtaylor@lexsc.com.”
