River Bluff opened the Region 4-5A portion of its wrestling schedule Jan. 4 at White Knoll High School.
The Gators left the Timberwolves’ home with a 50-24 victory. They jumped out to an 22-0 lead after opening with four straight decision wins and a pinfall by Elijah McDougall at 195 pounds.
A pinfall by Xavier Castillo-Kelly at 220 pounds put White Knoll on the board. River Bluff came back with a pinfall by Adam Colter, followed by one at 106 pounds by the Timberwolves’ Adrian Galo and a decision win by Ryan Felkel to make it 31-12.
White Knoll earned two straight pinfalls by Dawson Prevatte at 120 lbs. and Zach Weber at 126 lbs. to get within 31-24. The Gators closed out the match with three straight wins, the first by forfeit and final two on pinfalls by Michael Rogers at 132 lbs. and Trace Nettles at 145 lbs.
Up next for River Bluff is a Jan. 11 visit to archrival and defending region champion Lexington. The Wildcats lost 51-24 to top-ranked Chapin, which will compete this weekend in the Bearcat Invitational at Rock Hill High School.
White Knoll will compete Jan. 6 in the Blue Devil Classic at Dreher High School.
Lebron Fields had 15 points and Ricky Tyler added 10 for the Tigers.
Dazejah Lanham scored 18 points and Zamarya Crum had 10 for the Lady Tigers.
