Lexington County Administrator Lynn Sturkie has named Michael Spires as the new deputy administrator for Lexington County.
Previously, Spires was the Lexington County Public Works Director. He is also a member of the Central Midlands Council of Governments Technical Committee. Spires said he is “looking forward to this exciting opportunity to work with all County departments to provide quality services to the citizens of Lexington County.”
Spires is a graduate of Clemson University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Financial Management. He began his career with the County of Lexington in the Public Works Department in 1998, starting out an Engineering Associate I, then an Engineering Associate II in 2000.  He managed the C Fund Program from 2014 to 2020.
In 2012, Michael assumed the role of Airport Manager for the Lexington County Airport in addition to his other duties.  He is also a member of the South Carolina Aviation Association. He was hired as the Public Works Director in 2018.
“Michael’s loyalty, knowledge of the county, ability to work with other departments, and leadership within our County makes Michael the ideal person to work with me in Administration,” Sturkie said.
Michael is a lifelong resident of Lexington County and resides in the Chapin area. Spires has been married 23 years to Brenna Spires. They have a daughter, Payton, and a son, Griffin.
