The popular Spirit of Lake Murray yacht, an on-the-water site for weddings, anniversaries and birthday celebrations for the past 12 years, is now for sale.
But owner Ken Colton said it could very well be back in the celebration mode, depending on the buyer’s plan.
“You just don’t know what a person will do. But it creates a nice venue.” he said.
The Spirit of Lake Murray is an 80-foot yacht offering an unusual entertainment venue as passengers cruise the waters of Lake Murray. The boat has an indoor bar and climate-controlled deck salons.
Colton said people love an on-the-water celebration site, especially at Lake Murray. Some 100 weddings have taken place on the boat during the past decade.
Whatever occasion warrants a beautiful site on the water, Colton said The Spirit of Lake Murray is a perfect place.
“We’ve even had funerals,” he said.
Colton said he still loves the beautiful boat he purchased from a high-end hotel in Florida in 2008. But he is now struggling with cancer and decided it was time to move on to a different life.
He’s got plenty to do as the current pastor of Rehoboth United Methodist Church in Leesville, but he said his fond memories of the 134-passenger yacht will be with him forever.
“It was just such a blessing,” he said.
Colton is asking $349,000 for the yacht, but he said the price is “negotiable.”
The buyer has a variety of options. It could be used for private gatherings, or could very well continue as an entertainment venue for special occasions.
In the advertisement posted on The Boat Trader, the yacht is described as a good choice for entrepreneurs, business owners and other investors:
“Instead of frequently hiring venues to entertain clients, bring them out on your own private yacht. When you are entertaining your clients, cruise Lake Murray with your friends and family on the only large private yacht on Lake Murray.”
Colton said he discontinued hosting large groups in 2019 because of various inspection requirements that would involve removing the boat from the water. The boat has continued to be used by small groups
Colton purchased the yacht in the summer of 2008 from a high-end hotel in Jacksonville, Florida. The vessel was modernized with improvements that enhanced the atmosphere and service onboard the yacht.
In 2018, The Spirit carried a total of 11,000 passengers.
The yacht is currently docked at Hollow Creek Marina in Leesville.
