Friday – April 12 

Midlands Plant & Flower Sale

The SC State Farmers Market (3483 Charleston Hwy. in West Columbia) hosts the Midlands Plant & Flower Sale. Nu Blu (concert)

Bill’s Music Shop & Pickin’ Parlor (710 Meeting St. in West Columbia) presents the North Carolina band Nu Blu. The band plays a mix of American bluegrass, country music, taking a traditional approach to both contemporary and original music. Showtime is 8 p.m., and admission is $15. Beth Inabinett & For The Funk of It Band (concert)

Chayz Lounge (607 Meeting St. in West Columbia), vocalist Beth Inabinett and her band For The Funk Of It present “The Sounds of Neo Soul.” Expect an evening of hits and classics by Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Sade, The Brand New Heavies, Bob Marley/Lauryn Hill, Donell Jones, Sunshine Anderson, Musiq Soulchild, The Fugees, Soul II Soul, E.U., Soul 4 Real and more. Savage Craft Ale Works (430 Center St. in West Columbia) hosts a performance by the Knights Of Flannel. This band of four seasoned musicians, with decades of experience between them have a goal: to deliver the best rock & roll music from every era. Strawberry Pick & Play

Bring the kids to Clinton Sease Farm (382 Olde Farm Rd.) for their Strawberry Pick & Play event. Your $15 admission includes a wagon ride to the strawberry patch, a visit with the farm animals, playgrounds and obstacle courses, a jellybean maze and a strawberry activity pack, along with all the berries you can pick. Regina Carter (concert)

The Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College (7300 College Blvd.) presents acclaimed violinist Regina Carter. The New York Times says, “Ms. Carter is widely considered the finest jazz violinist of her generation, a hard-charging soloist whose precisely focused tone and graceful way with a balled hint at her long years of classical training.” Showtime is 7:30 p.m. and tickets cost between $55 and $65. Historically Speaking

The Lexington County Main Library (5440 Augusta Rd.) hosts another chapter in their “Historically Speaking” lecture series, presented by the Lexington County Museum. Thursday – April 18 

Under The Sun (concert)

The Icehouse Amphitheater (107 W. Main St.) welcomes Under The Sun to their Icehouse Live concert series, presented by the Lexington Medical Center. The band plays a variety of hits from the 90’s, 00’s and today starting at 6:30 p.m. This show is free to attend. Visit icehouseamphitheater.com for more information. 

Hen’s Night Out

The FARM 1780 (1127 Corley Mill Rd.) hosts their first Hen Night of 2024. Grab your girlfriends and enjoy a delicious wine and cheese spread with fresh farm grown sides as owner & winemaker at Partners & Grapes, Mary Anna Osa. shares the tasting notes and stories of crisp wines from Catalonia, Spain. Governor’s Cup Main Street Mile Run

Head down to Main St. in Columbia on Friday, April 12 for the Governor’s Cup Main Street Mile Run. Since 1973 this event has served two important purposes: First, it has provided the opportunity for South Carolina’s and the Southeast region’s top distance runners to compete in a race that meets the highest standards for competition and event management. Second, the Governor’s Cup has attracted thousands of participants who have used the event as a means of improving their health and fitness. The race begins at 6:15 p.m. Advance registration fee is $20, and day-of-race is $25. Visit governorscupsc.org for more information. 

The Movie Game (play)

The Ritz Theatre (1511 Main St.) and the Newberry Community Players present “The Movie Game” on Friday, April 12. The play is the story of Jack Goldberg, an unemployed cinephile, who has found himself in the midst of a pre-midlife crisis. In an attempt to shake the rut he is in, Jack agrees to see “the therapist to the stars,” Dr. Seuz, after his overbearing mother schedules an appointment for him. Seuz soon convinces Jack that, in order for him to move on with his life, he must undergo a radical type of therapy that forces Jack to play the leading man in his own romantic comedy.
