Steel Hands Brewing welcomed residents and their four-legged friends for two days of fun.
On May 10 and 11 were two days of festivities for the annual Steel Paws event, which is focused on raising funds for K9 programs across the state.
The first day featured a “Bowties & Blue Jeans” VIP event which included a BBQ Smokeshow Feast, local vendors, On Patrol Live deputies, a special auction and live music, a release states.
Festivities on May 11 were open to the public and started off with puppy yoga. Residents were welcome to bring their yoga mat and follow a yoga instruction through a session as multiple puppies ran around and said hello to those participating.
Many of the puppies were excited, running to and from different people. Of the dogs in attendance, the Cayce Police Department’s therapy dog also paid a visit and was showing off his laid-back and well-trained self throughout the yoga session.
The Cayce Police Department also used this event to introduce the newest K9 to the team.
Outside of the puppy-filled activities, attendees could take a look at law enforcement robots and get an inside glimpse into the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department's large tactical vehicle. Live music was also a source of entertainment for those without a four-legged friend present.
Like in other years, the brewery highlighted its Steel Paws Wheat Ale, a 4.7% ABV that benefits local law enforcement. This year, proceeds from the event benefit the Cayce Police Department, Richland County Sheriff’s Department and Lexington County Sheriff’s Department canine programs, a release states.
The initiative has raised more than $160,000 in the past two years for K9 programs across the state. The funds from this are used to purchase K9 training, K9 tactical vests, K9 dog food and medical care, cooling vests, ballistics vests, handler training and more.
