Here's some unexpected good news.
More of us in Lexington County are no longer unemployed.
Greenville County led the state with 1,755 initial claims filed the week ending July 11.
Richland County had 1,349. Spartanburg County 1,277, Charleston County 1,051, Sumter County 891 and Horry County 874.
Of the Big 7 counties, Lexington County had only 752.
Unemployment claims did rise in SC.
But the state agency keeping track of them partially blamed the July 4 holiday.
The 19,329 people who filed initial claims represented an increase of 3,267 claims from the week before.
The Department of Employment and Workforce said in the last 17 weeks, 671,079 initial claims have been filed.
DEW Executive Director Dan Ellzey said, “We believe this trend is isolated and isn’t solely pinpointed to covid-19."
