2 Lexington County airports will receive federal improvement dollars.

Columbia Metropolitan Airport has qualified for $2.7 million.

The money will be used for a new service road, improved terminal and apron lighting, and improved drainage and erosion control.

$65,700 is designated for Lexington County's Pelion airport.

The money will be used for taxiway crack sealing and pavement re-marking, county spokesman Harrison Cahill said..

This is part of $800 million in airport safety and infrastructure grants from the Federal Aviation Administration.

This will strengthen safety, improve travel, generate jobs and provide economic benefits locally, US Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao said.

Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport will receive $4.9 million to rehabilitate a taxiway, expand an apron, and construct and improve safety areas.

Myrtle Beach International Airport will use $3.7 million to reconstruct a taxiway.
