Bible study becomes a church

Posted

Heart Epochs Church had an unusual beginning.
It started as a bible study and ministry.
The congregation originally met with Pastor Shane Richardson at Glenforest School in West Columbia.
Church members Chip and Julie Estes and Keith Smith talked with me to share their story.
The church started as a bible study and ministry. Julie met the pastor’s wife Sylvia 10 years ago, and with Bonnie Allen, they started a bible study.
Then they began visiting prisons in Florida, and Bonnie’s husband Bryan went with them.
All of them were impressed with Pastor Shane’s prison ministry. His teaching and preaching are directly from the Bible. And he took no money for it.
Keith Smith met Pastor Shane through a prison ministry at 2 local prisons on Broad River Road. He was part of a “Get Smart Program” to prepare inmates for life after prison.
About a year later, the 7 of them and others began worship at 5 pm on Sundays.
Pastor Shane’s focus is on everyone’s life purpose.
Like Pastor Rick Warren’s Saddleback Church, that focus on purpose drives everything about Heart Epoch Church.
They even have training classes to help members discover their own talents, skills and abilities and how to use them for God’s work. The classes cover finance, web design, social media, nutrition and exercise.
The services are typical of most Protestant churches with singing, children’s church and a lively and meaty sermon straight from the bible.
About 75 people attend each Sunday. They are a very diverse group with multiple races and cultures worshipping as one.
They are currently meeting at The Gala off Clemson Road. Check their website, www.Heartepochs.com for service times.
