Disarming the internet

Are you worried about what the internet might expose your children and grandchildren to?
It is a big concern for many of us today.
We are seeing more instances of children being exposed to games, scams and criminals or being lured into an inappropriate relationship with a person they met online.
Cherokee Presbyterian Church in Gilbert will host a Youth Internet Safety educational program Sunday, May 19. The session is open to adults and teens in the community.
Joe Ryan from the Internet Crimes Against Children task force of the SC Attorney General’s Office will speak about how technology has changed and continues to shape the world in which our children are growing up. You can learn about the most popular devices and apps and how they are used.
Joe will also talk about preventative measures and how to build rapport with younger generations and encourage them in responsible use of technology.
This event is just one of the church’s Lessons for Life programs. They started offering these programs last year and will offer them quarterly in 2019.
Last year the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department gave sessions on gang awareness and holiday and internet shopping safety.
A speaker from Lighthouse for Life spoke on human trafficking.
Cherokee Presbyterian staff and members feel strongly about becoming God’s people and growing closer as a church and closer to God. As part of that, they want to serve their community. Their goal for Lessons for Life is to provide free, relevant, easily-accessible education to members of the Gilbert/Lexington area.
This event will be Sunday May 19 at 6 pm at the church. For more information, visit the church website at www.cherokeepresbyterian.com or their Facebook.
