Encouragement for the sick

What would you do if you had an incurable, debilitating disease?
You could have a pity party, but that’s no real help.
I have several friends who struggle daily with MS, fibromyalgia, or Parkinson’s Disease.
I have witnessed first hand how difficult life can be for them.
I was delighted to find out about a new encouragement group starting at First Baptist Church in Lexington.
Last week, Pastor Ralph Schneck and church Office Manager Scheri Force met with me.
Scheri has had MS for 22 years. Like most people with MS, she has good days and bad.
However, she told me that in the past few years, God has shown her that He has something else for her to do.
She and Shellie Walker, another church member with MS, looked for ways to help others.
They concluded that bringing together a group of people with similar diseases could be a great resource to encourage and support each other.
They have had their first 2 meetings and plan regularly scheduled meetings.
They call their ministry “Uplift Encouragement Group.”
It was inspired by God, Scheri said.
Their purpose is to encourage each other and those in the community.
It is for anyone with a chronic illness, caregivers or family members of someone with a disease.
One member said that if nothing else, it will take your mind off your problems for a while.
They plan a resource center and an information manual on illnesses and where to go for help.
If you know someone who would benefit from a group like this, Contact Scheri Force at 803-957-0686.
Do you have a ministry you would like to tell me about? Contact me at 803-348-0243 or chuck1946@hotmail.com
