God does the unexpected

Posted

Sometimes God leads His followers in directions they never expected.
Jann Boyd can verify that.
She spent most of her life as a pastor and teacher with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. This included 24 years in Canada teaching preaching, worship, administration, contextual education and parental education at a seminary.
She was ordained in 1982 and served 5 parishes in the inner city of Philadelphia.
She moved to New York for a while and back to Philadelphia.
In 2014, she moved to the Midlands to teach at the Lutheran Southern Theological Seminary in Columbia. Jann is currently a minister at Enon Lutheran Church in Leesville.
Her husband is a minister at St. James Lutheran Church and has been a missionary. So, most of her career has been in traditional and typical service. And she assumed that the rest of her life would be similar.
Recently, Jann felt God calling her to something new and different. This call was not in any way what she expected. Starting a business was not on her radar.
The business is Jessamine Quilt shop that carries the finest quilting, sewing, crocheting and other needle and fiber crafts materials. They also offer quilting and sewing lessons.
She sees the store as a ministry for the community,
It will be a place where people from many cultures can come together to enjoy crafts and skills that have a connection to religion. For thousands of years people have created art to express what they cannot explain.
There are other possibilities for serving the community from the store. Like offering community Bible studies or short respite for adults and children. The possibilities are open and who knows what other plans God has for that little shop?
Whatever it is, Jann is ready for it.
