Teaching young missionaries

“Vision for Missions” at Calvary Chapel Lexington aims to interest young members in missions.
Jesus’s great commission directs believers to share the Gospel at home and abroad.
It resulted from many discussions with youth ministers and new Missions coordinator Francis Celestine about how to get more young people involved in church missions.
Pastor Francis came to Calvary Chapel 7 months ago after serving as a missionary in Trinidad.
At a training event Feb. 26, a guest speaker will talk about witnessing to Native Americans.
The training will equip volunteers for a mission trip to a South Dakota reservation and mission trip to Honduras later this year.
In the training classes, there will be discussions and role playing to give them experience in sharing the Gospel with other cultures.
In addition, volunteers will learn some geography and history.
About 25 high school students and others will ride for 22 hours to the reservation near the Nebraska border.
They will talk with residents and visit a jail on the reservation to share the Gospel.
Many Native Americans have never heard of Jesus.
The volunteers will see a different culture and poverty as they have never experienced.
The week-long trip to Honduras will have them work with S. Calvary Chapel Honduras in an orphanage on a variety of projects and share God’s love with people of another culture. Details and projects for Honduras are still being planned.
Pastor Francis said that more people working in missions means more connections with others who are passionate about evangelizing the world.
