Rev. Cliff Thompson and wife Helen from Cayce started a unique ministry for Baptist churches
Cliff Thompson started Trail of Blood Ministries after years of serving God as a preacher, Sunday School teacher and jailhouse evangelist.
He felt the call to preach many years ago while attending a Baptist Church in South Congaree.
In 1984 he took that calling to the next level by working through various chaplains at the Columbia Richland County Detention Center.
He began preaching and sharing the Gospel every other Sunday afternoon.  After 15 years with the Detention Center he served as a chaplain for Agape Senior Care for 11 years.
A conversation with a fellow Sunday School teacher from Columbia made him realize that a book he got right after being saved was almost unknown among Baptist churches.
The book, “The Trail of Blood,” by J. M. Carroll tells the history of Baptist persecution since the first century.
Cliff recognized that God was once again leading him to something new. That was to get a free copy of the book into as many homes as possible.
It is important for Baptists to know the sacrifices and persecutions that previous generations experienced, Thompson said.
In addition to the free books, they offer programs suitable for a Sunday Sermon, revival, VBS or other gatherings.
Cliff and Helen are full time Faith Missionaries. That means that they must raise the funds needed to provide the books. Since 2002 they have distributed 36,000 to all 50 states and 17 foreign countries.
