3 deaths reported in Richland County

21 more confirmed SC covid deaths and 1 probable death were reported Monday.

1 elderly Lexington County death occurred Jan. 10.

3 Richland County deaths were reported occurring earlier this month.

Lexington County had 105 new cases reported Monday.

Richland County had 142 new cases.

Greenville County again had the highest rate, 322 cases.

Greenville and Spartanburg hospitals report being overwhelmed with cases.

Lexington Medical Center reported it is prepared to meet any increased need here.

The new patient care tower has rooms ready "at the flip of a switch," LMC's Jennifer Wilson reported.

The Department of Health and Environmental Control Monday announced these updates.

  • Confirmed and probable cases: 255,210/20,523
  • Confirmed and probable deaths: 4,587/375
  • Tests performed for South Carolinians: 3,342,677

Testing opportunities (scdhec.gov/findatest)

  • Testing opportunities available statewide: 315

Percent positive (scdhec.gov/COVID19dashboard)

  • 9,796 new individual test results reported statewide (not including antibody tests)
  • 21.7% tested positive as infected.
  •  That means 78.3% tested negative as uninfected.

Facility reports

DHEC will not report daily covid numbers on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day. 

Data that would be reported Dec. 25 and Jan. 1 will be available online the following day. 

The Chronicle will post them as soon as they are available.
