The Lexington Police Department will be raising funds for Special Olympics athletes this week.

"Cops on the Coop" will be at 2 Chick-fil-A locations Thursday, Sept. 12 and Friday, Sept. 13.

Lexington Police Department officers, with help from Volunteers in Police Services (V.I.P.S.) members, will be at Chick-fil-A Lexington, 5560 Sunset Blvd., and Chick-fil-A Saluda Pointe, 4295 Sunset Blvd., from 6 am until 2 pm each day.

Officers and V.I.P.S. will be collecting donations of cash, check or credit card at the restaurant front door area and in the drive thru lanes.

Chick-fil-A will be giving away complimentary treat or sandwich cards to use at a later visit for those who make a donation and there will be Special Olympics apparel for purchase.

All money donated will benefit the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics to directly support the over 29,000 Special Olympics athletes in South Carolina.

Chief Terrence Green said, “The Lexington Police Department has had a longstanding relationship with Special Olympics South Carolina and the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics and these events with our local Chick-fil-A stores are always a success.  Thanks in advance to everyone who makes “Cops on the Coop” part of their day this week as you are helping us make a difference for Special Olympics athletes.”
