DUI collision causes power outages across Lexington

Posted

An early-morning collision caused power outages across Lexington Thursday.

Kyle Anthony Greenwood, 31, of Columbia has been charged with driving under the influence after he drove his vehicle into an electric pole on South Lake Drive around 1:35 am.

Greenwood's Dodge Charger split the wooden pole it in half, leaving live power lines across the road.

When officers arrived on the scene, they smelled alcohol on Greenwood and observed glossy and bloodshot eyes, according to reports. After taking a field sobriety test, Greenwood was placed under arrest for driving under the influence.

Greenwood refused to offer a breath sample, according to reports.

His drivers license has been suspended and he awaits an appearance at Lexington County Bond Court.

This collision closed a portion of South Lake Drive until approximately 8 am while Dominion Energy worked to restore power to area residents and businesses.
