Gilbert Elementary students evacuated

Posted

At about 1:30 p.m yesterday., Gilbert Elementary School staff noticed a small fire in an electrical closet.
GES administrators immediately evacuated the school.
No students or staff were harmed.
Students were brought into the school cafeteria at 2:11 p.m., District 1 spokesperson Mary Beth Hill wrote in a press release. The cafeteria is in a different building than where the fire was located.
Students were dismissed normally at 2:25 p.m. However, the students were not allowed to go back into the other buildings to get their belongings. They are to collect their belongings this morning, Hill wrote.
