Jawara A. Brunson, 26, of Batesburg died as a result of a motor vehicle collision following a police pursuit, according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher.
The collision occurred in the 300 block of Highland Avenue in Batesburg at approximately 11:40 pm Feb. 6.
Brunson was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the collision.
According to police reports, Brunson attempted to evade a traffic stop initiated by an officer from the Batesburg-Leesville Police Department, which led to a brief pursuit.
Brunson lost control of his vehicle, left the right side of the roadway and over-corrected, causing his vehicle to collide with a tree and overturn. He was not wearing a seatbelt when the collision occurred.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
