How safe are we in Lexington County?

Posted

This may come as a surprise but we live in far from SC’s safest communities.
That honor goes to the Isle of Palms in the low country and Tega Cay in the upstate for the 2nd consecutive year.
These are the findings of  SafeWise, a home safety and security data research firm.
In its 5th annual safest communities report, it lists only 5 Lexington County communities as safest.
Lexington comes it at #18, Irmo #30, Batesburg-Leesville #48, Cayce #50 and West Columbia #60.
South Carolina’s safest communities are far below the state’s overall violent crime rate of 6.14, compared to 4.49 nationally.
Each community on the list has a violent crime rate of fewer than 3.5 incidents per 1,000 people.
These cities ranked well for property crime, too, with 60% limiting incidents to fewer than 24 per 1,000 people. That beats state and national property crime rates of 42.06 and 27.11.
Lexington was #18 with a population listed at 21,434, median income of $65,019, 3.08 violent crime rate per 1,000 residents and property crimes of 30.0.
#30, Irmo has 12,353 residents, 4.45 violent crimes and 6.19 property crimes.
#48 Batesburg-Leesville has 5,462 residents, 7.87 violent crimes and 48.7 property crimes.
# 50Cayce has 14,434 residents, 7.9 violent crimes and 51.2 property crimes.
#60 West Columbia has 16,426 residents, 10.78 violent crimes and 67.7 property crimes.
