Covid-19 limits customers in stores, sets 1-way shopping

Walmart and sister company Sam's Club have limitied in-store customers.

No more than 5 people per 1,000 square feet are allowed inside at a time.

In locations where officials require lower numbers, Walmart said it will comply.

Walmart, like Publix grocers, has 1-way shopping in aisles with arrows on the floors to help customers practice social distancing.

Marked entrances, checkout lanes and exits are to make it easier for customers to keep distance from each other.

Sneeze guards have been installed at pharmacy and store registers.

Walmart has increased pickup and delivery.

For customers who rely on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for groceries, Walmart said it is working with the USDA to offer online transactions for pickup and delivery.

Customers with smartphones can scan a QR code and Walmart Pay is synced for payment.

All associates are required to wear face masks.

Associates are being encouraged to:
• Wash their hands at least 20 seconds as often as possible.
• Use at least 60% alcohol hand santitizer if soap and water are not immediately available.

Walmart said it cleans and sanitizes stores including shopping carts to protect customers.

Associates clean carts with 2-gallon sprayers and cleaning solutions.

New operating hours are 7 am to 8:30 pm.

Stores that open later than 7 am are continuing regular starting hours.

This lets associates restock shelves and clean and sanitize the store.

Before shifts, associates are given health screenings by taking their temperature and asking basic health questions. Any associate with a temperature of 100 degrees or higher will be paid for reporting to work and asked to return home and seek medical treatment if necessary.

These associates can not return to work until they are fever-free for at least 3 days.

Should an associate have a confirmed case of the virus, they'll receive up to 2 weeks pay.

If they're unable to return after that, additional pay may be provided for up to 26 weeks.
