Trash pickup rates going way up

County residents will pay up to 72% more for curbside pickup starting Dec. 31.
Certain rural areas will even lose pickup services.
This is due to new curbside collection service contracts.
Districts 2 and 4 in northern Lexington County:
• The collector will change from Advanced Disposal to Waste Industries.
•  Increase in curbside collection rate about 17% to $18.65 a month.
• Increase in backdoor collection rate about 22% to $37.30 a month.
• Customers’ existing household waste and recycling carts will be used.
• Collection day will likely change.
• A new service agreement and quarterly invoice will be mailed to customers Dec. 11.

District 6 in southern Lexington County:
• Service provider will change from Advanced Disposal to Capital Waste Services.
• Urban service area (north of Boiling Springs Road and east of Calks Ferry Road) will receive household garbage and yard-waste collection weekly and recycling collection every other week. Curbside collection rates will increase 72% to $27.45 per month. Backdoor collection rates will increase 32% to $40.45 per month.
• Rural service area (south of Boiling Springs Road and west of Calks Ferry Road) will receive only weekly household garbage collection. Yard waste and recycling pickup will be unavailable. Curbside collection rates will increase 69% to $27 a month. Backdoor collection rates will increase 64% to $50 a month.
• Collection day is likely to be changed.
• Capital Waste Services will use customers’ existing household waste and/or recycling carts.
• Quarterly invoices will be mailed to all existing customers beginning Dec. 15.

Further changes in rates and service providers for curbside collection customers in Districts 1 and 5 will be announced in March.
