White Knoll student arrested for school shooting threat

Posted

A rising White Knoll High junior has been charged with threatening violence at the school.
Authorities said the unidentified student threatened to shoot up the school and kill himself Monday.
Lexington County investigators interviewed him Monday afternoon at his home.
His name will not be
released because he’s under age 17.
He’s charged with making threats to a school.
The student has been released to the custody of his parents pending a mental health evaluation.
“White Knoll administrators notified us about the threat after a student shared a screenshot and related details of what the suspect posted online,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said.
“We always take these threats seriously.
“This is an example of how a strong relationship between school district administration and law enforcement creates a level of safety and protection in our community.”
Koon said the investigation into the threat is ongoing.
The teen will appear in Lexington County Family Court later.
“Lexington District 1 does not tolerate this kind of behavior and feels that every child deserves a safe learning environment,” Mary Beth Hill of the district said in a Tuesday press release.
“For this reason and in accordance with applicable policies and procedures, school administrators recommended the student for expulsion. This is standard operating procedure.”
Students can report school safety concerns by:

• Texting details of their concern to 803-636-8317 .
• Emailing details of their concern to 1607@alert1.us.com .
This is not the fist such local incident.

•  In May 2018, Lexington Police charged a 14-year-old male from West Columbia with unlawful communication and disturbing schools for threats through social media.
The suspect threatened to shoot up Lexington Middle School and made reference to Charleston church shooter Dylan Roof.
• Last November, Pelion High student Robert Hunter Jacob Woods, 18, was charged with threatening a mass shooting at the school.
He admitted to deputies he had created multiple social media profiles to make threats against the school.
