What SC's top educator plans for your child

Superintendent outlines 5 primary 2021 goals

Posted

Lexington County parents may be pleased to hear the state's top educator has clear goals.

SC Education Superintendent Molly Spearman has released her department’s priorities for 2021.

To find out what they will cost the taxpayers, click here.

1. Ensure SC students' and educators' safety and wellness

It is vital all schools have the resources to provide appropriate mental, physical and emotional health support needed for immediate and continued success.

2. Recruit and retain teachers

Due to covid South Carolinians have a renewed appreciation for the remarkable job teachers do. Now is the time for lawmakers to support financial incentives, policies and programs to attract and retain high-quality teachers.

3. Guarantee students are ready for colleges and careers

Career and technology courses need to be ready across the state. This includes equal access to up-to-date technology and  competency-based education that does not rely heavily on high-stakes testing.

4. Expand early learning and literacy

To close achievement gaps and improve literacy in K-12, expand full-day 4K and engage parents with their child’s learning.

5. Maximize district efficiency

Reform education funding and staff support.
