Lawmakers drag their feet on SCE&G rates

OK. Enough is enough.

No one in the legislature has helped SC Electric & Gas ratepayers. Some are trying but most are pretending to want to help but really are turning a blind eye. Or they are manipulating the system so they don’t look bad for not giving no relief from the continuing charges on our electric bills.’

They look bad for not getting anything done. They are stalling until the session is over and it’s dead for another year.

SCANA’s figure of $37 million a month in nuclear charges isn’t true. I believe it’s not the full amount. From the time they killed the project to now, they have admittedly charged ratepayers $370 million to date by May 31, 2018.

That’s 10 months of lawmakers dragging their feet, 10 months of bantering back and forth, and 10 months of getting exactly nothing for the ratepayers.

But did the lawmakers get their pay and benefits? And if this isn’t at least resolved now with some rate cut, then another year will go by and an additional $444 million will be extorted from the ratepayers.

OK. Give us the 18% SCANA claims as the amount added to our bills. We can sue for the rest and, believe me, we will. But for now, give us some relief.

Give the ratepayers the 18%, although it’s not correct. That will make a difference in their lives. It might not seem like much to legislators but to people who work for less than $8 an hour and don’t get near 40 hour weeks with no benefits, it’s a huge amount.

Do something now.
