The race for seeding in American Legion League III remains as tight as ever entering the final week of the regular season.
On Wednesday, Lexington Post 7 defeated West Columbia 6-1 at Lexington Sports Complex.
Aaron White had 2 RBI and Brett McEwen drew 3 walks for Lexington (8-9, 5-3), which jumped out to a 5-0 lead after 3 innings.
Braydon Fowler allowed 3 hits in 5 ⅔ innings and Nate Roof struck out 3 in relief for Post 7.
The victory kept Lexington to within a game of League III leader Camden Post 17. Camden also defeated Aiken 6-3 as it broke a 3-3 tie with 3 runs in the bottom 6th.
Heath Stokes put Camden (12-3, 6-2) ahead with a 2-run single and Brandon Salmond added an RBI triple during the rally. Justin Dorton retired the final 3 batters for the complete-game win.
The losses left Aiken and West Columbia tied for 3rd place and the final playoff spot. West Columbia (4-7, 3-6) plays host to Camden Friday at Brookland-Cayce High School, while Lexington travels to Aiken (5-11, 3-6).
