AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL - West Columbia holds off Lexington 11-8

A pair of big innings propelled West Columbia Post 79 to a 11-8 win over Lexington Post 7 Friday at Brookland-Cayce High School.

West Columbia jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom 2nd. Ryan Williamson opened things with a 2-run single, Dalton Mims of Airport followed with a 2-run homer and Dylan Williamson of Pelion added a solo shot.

Lexington answered with a 5-run rally in the top 4th to tie the game. Nick Huffmaker of Lexington opened the comeback with the first of his 2 solo home runs. Patrick Boyle had an RBI walk and 3 baserunners scored off wild pitches and a throwing error by catcher Justin McGee.

West Columbia came back in the bottom 4th with 6 runs. Ryan Williamson had a 2-run double and Mims added an RBI single during the rally.

Brandon Caughman of Airport pitched 3 ⅓ innings of relief, struck out 3 and allowed 2 runs to pick up the victory for West Columbia (2-3). It begins a 3-game series Monday at defending League III champion Camden.

Lexington (2-4) opens a 3-game series versus Aiken Post 26 Monday at Lexington Ballpark Road Sports Complex.
