Posted

The playoff hopes for the Lexington County Blowfish are now down to one game.
Saturday's 7-5 loss to the Macon Bacon snapped a 3-game winning streak against the Georgia club and at Luther Williams Field.
After trailing 4-1, Macon scored 6 unanswered runs and capitalized off 4 errors to hand Lexington County (15-30, 8-12) its 3rd straight loss. The Bacon (28-16, 11-7) stayed within a game of the Savannah Bananas for 1st place in the 2nd half of the Coastal Plain League South Division standings, but can still earn a berth in the Pettit Cup playoffs based on having the 2nd best overall divisional record.
With 5 games remaining, the Blowfish can get officially eliminated from the post-season with another loss or a Bananas win.
An RBI triple by Houston Wright scored James McConnon from 1st base to give the Blowfish a 1-0 lead. They added 2 runs in the top 4th on a towering home run by Ian Jenkins and RBI single by Aaron Adams of River Bluff.
Macon got on the board with an RBI fielder's choice by Daniel Harris. In the top 5th, Josh Gregory drew a walk, advanced to 2nd on a fielder's choice and score on a throwing error by 3rd baseman Colton Yeager.
Daniel Harris cut the Blowfish lead to 4-2 with an RBI double in the Bottom 6th. He then scored from a throwing error by Connolly to third base.
Yeager made amends in the Bottom 7th. After reliever Ryan Flores issued back-to-back walks, Yeager lined a single that was misplayed in leftfield by Gregory which brought both runners home to give Macon a 5-4 lead.
Macon added 2 more runs on a double by Jared Miller and single by Harris to go up 7-4.
Lexington County mounted a comeback in the top 8th. Jenkins reached to lead off after getting hit by a pitch and advanced to third on Kirven's 3rd hit of the game.
Jenkins picked up the Blowfish's final run when he scored on a wild pitch. In the top 9th, reliever Chris Rolick struck out all 3 batters faced to help the Bacon finish with 10 strikeouts.
Flores took the loss as Connolly was denied a decision despite 7 of his team's 9 strikeouts.
Lexington County will remain on the road as it travels to Fayetteville Monday.
