BLOWFISH UNVEIL NEW UNIFORMS

"Father-Son' contest between Gray Collegiate and Cardinal Newman set for April 6 at Lexington County Baseball Stadium

The Lexington County Blowfish held its monthly media luncheon Wednesday at the VIP Stadium Club at Lexington County Baseball Stadium.
This month’s luncheon featured a number of special announcements by co-owner Bill Shanahan, General Manager Theo Bacot and Nancy Smith, General Manager of the South Carolina State Fair.
Bill and Nancy Shanahan joined together to announce the partnership between the Blowfish and the South Carolina State Fair as the Blowfish honor the 150th anniversary of the S.C. State Fair with the Lexington County Fair this upcoming season.
“It’s special for us to join together as we honor the 150th anniversary of our South Carolina State Fair with our own Lexington County Fair,” Shanahan said.
In addition, the specialty jerseys worn by the Blowfish this year will be auctioned off on Aug. 3 on Fan Appreciation Night. The proceeds raised by that jersey auction will go to the South Carolina State Fair Education Scholarship fund and will be given to a Lexington County resident entering their first year of college.
Bacot unveiled those 2019 specialty jerseys during the luncheon. The jerseys will be worn throughout the season.
The navy blue jerseys with red sleeves incorporate the 2019 theme logo on the back, as well as a patch on the sleeve to pay homage to the South Carolina State Fair.
”We’d like to thank our presenting sponsor of the player jersey, Carolina Comfort Heating and Air.” Bacot said.
The Blowfish once again partnered with Skye Design Studios (www.sdsbranding.com) to develop the fair-themed design. The Winston-Salem NC company also created the identity for the Lexington County Pancakes’ logo used last year.
In addition, the Blowfish announced changes to their reading program. In conjunction with the Fair theme, the Blowfish Reading Fair is back in local Lexington County elementary schools this spring.
Students who read 4 grade-level books during the program will receive two tickets to their school’s game night, as well as other prizes.
“This allows over 1,000 more children to practice literacy and be rewarded for their hard work at a Blowfish game this summer,” Bacot said.

Father-Son Game
The Blowfish also announced a S.C. High School League vs. SCISA baseball game on April 6 at the stadium. Gray Collegiate and Cardinal Newman will face off with two head coaches quite familiar with one another.
First-year War Eagles’ head coach Charles Assey and his son Charlie Assey of the defending SCISA Class 3A champion Cardinals will battle in the first ever “Father-Son Game” at the stadium.
“The Blowfish always look to get involved with the local community and high schools,” Bacot stated. “Hosting these two programs and coaches at The Lex will be a thrill and we’re very excited for the great game on April 6.”
