The winning ways at home and against non-Coastal Plain League teams continued Friday for the Lexington County Blowfish.
The Blowfish outlasted the Catawba Valley All-Stars 11-9. It was the team’s 5th straight win at Lexington County Baseball Stadium, where they improved to 12-2 on the season and 11-0 against teams not named the Macon Bacon and the Savannah Bananas.
The 2 teams combined for 22 hits and 4 home runs, 3 by the Blowfish. Lexington County answered a solo blast by the Stars in the top of the 3rd with a 3-run homer by Tanner Garrison which was immediately followed by a solo shot by Zachary Iverson in the bottom half of the inning.
Catawba rallied for 5 runs in the top 4th to retake the lead, only to have the Blowfish answer back with 3 runs in the bottom half of the inning to go up 7-6.
Brennan Milone of the University of South Carolina added to his team lead with an RBI double to increase his total to 27 on the season. Luke Orr followed with a 2-run single.
After Catawba Valley reclaimed the lead again, the Blowfish scored 4 unanswered runs. Nicky Winterstein scored on a wild pitch to tie the game in the 6th and Matt McDermott belted a 3-run homer to put Lexington County up 11-8.
A wild pitch scored the Star’s final run. Christian Edwards pitched 1 scoreless inning for the victory.
The Blowfish will have a home doubleheader for the 1st time this season on Saturday. The 1st game against the Lake Murray Purple Martins starts at 4:30 pm, followed by 7 pm with a matchup with the Bomb Island Bombers.
