DRIVEN "BANANAS!" - Blowfish drop 9th straight home game to Savannah

Lexington County play host to Catawba City on "Dog Day" Tuesday.

Frozen chocolate-covered bananas were the newest "Carnival" item available at the concession stand Monday night at Lexington County Baseball Stadium.
The latest menu selection was part of the Lexington County Blowfish's season-long commeration of the 150th anniversary of the South Carolina State Fair.
Much to the disappointment of the Blowfish and their fans, the visiting Savannah Bananas once again put a damper on the home festivities.
In defeating the Blowfish 10-5 for the 2nd time this season, the Bananas also extended their win streak at "The Fishbowl" to 9 dating back to July 29, 2017.
"They're just a good ballclub," Lexington County head coach Marshall McFadden said. "They don't make any mistakes and if they get a runner to 3rd with less than 2 outs, they're really good at putting the ball in play and getting the run in. So, we've got to get a little bit better on the mound."
After falling behind 2-0, Lexington erupted for 5 runs in the bottom 2nd. Ashby Smith, James McConnon and Jimmy Marcelli also had RBI hits and Houston Wright added a 2-run double to knock starting pitcher Brian Belden out of the game.
The Blowfish would not score again. Catcher Luis Aviles of the University of South Carolina's 2-run double in the top 4th off Lexington starter Jordan Beatson brought Savannah to within 5-4.
The Bananas (3-1) took the lead with 3 runs in the Top 5th. Gabe Howell hit a game-tying double. Brett Wisely, who homered in the top 1st, scored on an errant throw by reliever Zach Williams and Daryl Myers singled home Howell to make it 7-5.
Savannah added 2 more runs in the sixth and Howell put the finishing touches on the 8-0 run with a solo home run off Grayson Stoneking. He was the third Banana player with 2 RBI in the contest and it marked the 4th double-digit run total Savannah has posted in the 9 victories at Lexington County Baseball Stadium.
Lexington (1-3) closes out the 3-game homestand Tuesday in a 9-inning exhibition game against the Catawba Valley Stars. As part of "Dog Day Tuesday", every dog receives free admission with a paid owner.
"You always want to win," McDonald said. "I'm never going to come out here and try to lose a game. But, we're going to get some guys some innings and some guys some bats tomorrow to help move this thing along and kind of use it to see what we have."
