The 2nd annual Columbia Metro Senior Bowl ended in dramatic fashion Friday at Fort Knox.

Sumter’s Dyson Roberts kicked a 33-yard field goal as time expired to lift the East to a 19-17 win over the West.

It was the 2nd field goal made by Roberts, who was named East MVP. The game-winner was set up by a drive orchestrated by overall MVP Jamison Ganzy of Lower Richland following a missed field goal by Mid-Carolina’s Drew Dominick for the West with 1:58 left in the contest.

The East took a 7-0 lead after Ganzy connected with Blythewood’s David Patten III for a 3-yard touchdown pass in the 1st quarter.

Columbia Metro Senior Bowl history was made in the 2nd quarter. With 8:12 remaining, running back Shauntrel Hendrix of Batesburg-Leesville scored from 6 yards to tie the game at 7-7.

It was the first rushing touchdown in Columbia Metro Senior Bowl history.

The two teams exchanged field goals before the half to tie the game at 10-10.

The West opened the 3rd quarter with a scoring drive led by Chapin quarterback Roger Pedroni. He connected with Saluda’s Jervon Whitt for a 15-yard touchdown to put the West up 17-10.

The East answered with a 4-yard touchdown run by Ganzy with 1:58 left. The snap was botched on the extra point and the West held a 17-16 lead entering the 4th quarter.

It stayed that way until the final seconds when, after two timouts by the West, Roberts sent the ball through the uprights and he and his East teammates raced towards the opposing endzone to celebrate.

Running back Deonte Baker of host school Brookland-Cayce was named the West MVP.
