River Bluff boys set new school record for wins

Friday night saw a pair of SCISA region contest settled in the final minute in favor of host team Northside Christian.
It started with the varsity girls' game which came down to a last shot. Maryn Brewer connected on the go-ahead basket as time expired to lift the Lady Crusaders to a 24-23 victory over Thomas Sumter Academy.
Brewer finished with a team-high 9 points, followed by Alexa Brownell with 6 and Elizabeth Everett with 5.
The boys' contest featured a short-handed Northside Christian needing a victory to stay in the hunt for the Region 2-2A title. Without leading scorers center Mezziah Oakman and 3-point shooting guard Jeb Resier, the Crusaders trailed Thomas Sumter 15-12 at halftime. 
After falling behind by 6 points every in the 3rd quarter, Northside Christian connected on 4 straight 3-pointers during a 12-4 run to take a 29-27 lead with 3:05 left in the 3rd quarter.
Down the stretch, the Crusaders got timely scores from Noah Powell and Thomas Kidman to help extend their lead to 7 points in the fourth. The Generals rallied back to within 43-39 with 8.9 seconds left, but missed 3 free throws.
Despite 4 fouls, Trey Tony remained in the contest and closed out the scoring with 2 free throws for Northside Christian. He finished with a team-high 12 points and Corey Black added 9 for the Crusaders, who improved to 4-1 in the region.
"Everybody stepped up in the second half at key junctures," Northside Christian head coach Jason Harmon said. "Providing maybe a three here or open shot here, rebound here. It was a total team effort tonight."
Up next for Northside Christian is a rematch Tuesday at home with Palmetto Christian to determine first place in the region. The Eagles won the first meeting.

Lexington 52, White Knoll 34
It's now 23-0 for the 4th ranked Wildcats.
Mason Carver scored 16 points on Seniors Night and Lexington outscored the Timberwolves 19-2 in the second quarter after falling behind to remain undefeated on the season.
The victory was also career number 632 for head coach Bailey Harris. He's 6 wins shy of moving into 6th place all-time ahead of Chip Atkins.
The Wildcats (23-0, 5-0) will have a 7-day break before returning to action Friday at Chapin.


River Bluff 58, Camden 47
For the second straight year, the Gators set a single-season school record for wins. 
J.T. Reeves scored 17 points and Cody Gary added 11 as they rebounded from Tuesday's loss to Lexington with a non-region victory over the Bulldogs.
Trajon Pate had 14 points, Kasean Crews posted 13 and Devante Johnson scored 12 for Camden.
River Bluff (18-3, 3-1) will play host to Dutch Fork. 

Irmo 53, Spring Valley 36
Trevez Caldwell scored 16 points and Cameron Readus added 10 for the Yellow Jackets (13-8, 3-2) Friday.
It was the first Region 4-5A loss of the season for the Vikings (12-8, 4-1).

India Candelario scored 19 points and Caliegh Corbett added 13 as the Lady Eagles improved to 15-6 overall, 5-1 in Region 4-4A.
Up next is a Tuesday rematch at defending Class 4A champion North Augusta.


Camden 54, River Bluff 23
The Lady Gators dropped their 27th consecutive game in the loss to the Lady Bulldogs.
Reagan Rozier scored 9 points and Niya Perry had 6 to lead the Lady Gators (0-18, 0-4).


Spring Valley 64, Irmo 42
Madison Dopico scored 18 points and Ehrial Wagstaff and Malayiah Mason each added 8 points in the loss to the defending Class 5A champions.
